Health Checks All People Should Do Often

by Vanessa Summer

There are a large amount of people who refuse to see a doctor until they feel so sick that they are concerned they can't look after themselves anymore. The real truth is that there are plenty of serious illnesses out there that you could easily cure or completely avoid just by better monitoring of your health. This means getting yourself tested for a variety of things on a regular basis whether you feel sick or not. These are some of the usual health checks that you need to start doing.

You can never be too old to get your height tested. There is a reason that, whenever you see your doctor (no matter what type you may be seeing), you are asked to stand against the height chart on the wall. People actually do get smaller when they get older. People drop close to half an inch of height during each decade after they turn forty. After a person reaches the age of seventy, this rate increases. If you are shedding more than that or are losing height before you turn forty this could be a sign of osteoporosis or other health problems. This is the reason that you need to watch your height really closely, even if you only measure your height in your own home.

You need to watch your blood pressure. Lots of health problems relate back to blood pressure--problems just like hypertension, heart attacks and strokes. You really want your blood pressure to keep low--obviously definitely not too low--but within the healthy range for your age, weight and height. Ask your doctor where your blood pressure should be and then get it checked regularly to ensure that you're still in a healthy place. Pretty much every grocery store and pharmacy has a blood pressure checker that you could use either for free or for a affordable price to check your pressure. If the numbers look off, talk to your doctor to understand what might be causing the numbers to change and what you can do to get back on track. Keeping your blood pressure within the suitable range can help you protect against all sorts of illnesses.

Check your hearing a whole lot. Most of us don't realize that we have started to lose our hearing until it is too late. Losing our hearing can result in cognitive function loss in addition to feelings of isolation as well as other psychological problems. Take part in the no cost screenings if they are offered in your town and ask your doctor to do routine checks when you're in in for a check up. This can help you take measures to preserve your hearing for as long as possible.

These things most likely don't seem like all that big a deal but the real truth is that they all are part of our whole health both now and when we are older. The sincere truth is that you should track what happens in your body. Even tiny alterations can be indicators of big problems. Ask your medical professional what you need to evaluate regularly and precisely what health issues you need to closely monitor.
